Enabling Java on your Browser

PC Users:
If your browser does not support Java, you will need to download a current version of Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then enable Java. Some browsers, such as Opera and the early AOL browser versions, simply do not support Java.

Here is how to enable Java in several of the most popular browsers:

  1. Select Options
  2. Select Network Preferences
  3. Select Languages
  4. Select Enable Java
  1. Select View
  2. Select Options
  3. Select Security
  4. Select Enable Java Programs

  1. Invoke Browser / WWW (Click on the Globe button)
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Select Security
  4. Select Active Content
  5. Select Enable Java Programs (This is the default setting in some versions of the AOL browser...) (Note: Version 3.2 of AOL Browser for Windows 95 was be available the first week of June '97)

If you cannot see the Java applets on this Web site and you are using the AOL browser for Mac/PowerMac you will need to upgrade to a current version of Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. How is how to enable Java in one of these two browsers:

  1. Select Options
  2. Select Network Preferences
  3. Select Languages
  4. Select Enable Java
  1. Select View
  2. Select Options
  3. Select Security
  4. Select Enable Java Programs

This browser does NOT support Java...you need Netscape or Microsoft if you wish to view Java applications.

You can enable Java-Script (used on the IfW&TWA web site to say good morning, good afternoon, and good evening on the opening screen) by disabling "compressed graphics" in the AOL/Mac web browser. It may not be worth it to you.

For members who use Macintosh, AOL suggests using the AOL Mac software with a 68030 or better, System 7+ o/s and 8 megs of actual RAM.

Note: minimum RAM requirements are based on actual amount of RAM available, not via "ram expanders" like RamDoubler, etc.
